Accident Drane House receives $250,000 grant

The non-profit 501-C-3 organization, Accident Drane House Association, Inc. (ADHA) announces that it has received Notice of Grant Award for various items necessary to complete restoration and preservation of the oldest building in Garrett County, MD. This award is in the amount of $250,000 and is funded by part by a grant from the Historic Preservation Fund, as administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior.

The original structure of the Drane House was built in 1798 and is now owned by the Town of Accident, MD. Restoration work occurred on this structure in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s but the ravages of time now dictate that further work be completed. There is a Memorandum of Understanding between the ADHA and the Town of Accident to insure the parties work toward the goal of restoration, preservation and ongoing maintenance of the Drane House and to create and maintain a valuable resource for the Town and the residents and visitors of Garrett County for this historic attraction and as an educational resource.

All work, changes and improvements on the Drane House must be approved by the Maryland Historic Trust, the Town of Accident and for this federal grant, review must be completed by the National Park Service for compliance with the Secretary of the Interior Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation, Section 106, and NEPA.
